Three Vehicles Found Submerged in Westside Pond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A lawn maintenance worker is used to seeing branches and maybe children's toys along his path, but it was vehicles in an area he doesn't mow that caught his attention, and that of the JSO dive team.

The worker was in a neighborhood off Chaffee Road this afternoon when he saw what appeared to be a vehicle underwater in a retention pond.  He called the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The dive team discovered three vehicles submerged, and from the looks of them when they were pulled from the water, they had been there for a while.

"It's more common than I'd like it to be," said JSO Sgt. Danny Williams.

Williams said this sort of thing does "happen occasionally," and in most cases it turns out to be stolen vehicles.

The officers pulled all three out of the water, and now will go about tracking down how they got into the pond at the end of Snowbrook Court.
