Florida Average Gas Price Up 16 Cents

As unrest in the Mideast and Libya continued to escalate last week, so did the price of crude oil. For the first time since September of 2008, the price of oil closed above $100 a barrel.

Protests in Libya continue to cause concern the unrest will spread to larger oil producing countries and disrupt oil supply. In addition, reports showing the U.S. unemployment rate fell to 8.9 percent, the lowest level since 2009, also drove up the price of oil.

JTA Wins Federal Clean Fuels Grant; Paves Way for First Hybrid Buses in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) today announced that it has received a $4 million federal grant to purchase
hybrid buses as a part of JTA’s ongoing fleet replacement program.

The grant is funded through the Clean Fuels Grant Program Funds, a program that supports the U. S. Department of Transportation’s environmental sustainability efforts. JTA was the only Florida agency that received funds.

Construction to Start on I-295 and Collins Road Interchange

The Florida Department of Transportation is scheduled to start construction on a new $63.4 million interchange at I-295 and Collins Road, beginning February 14.

The project is scheduled to finish in early 2014 and will help alleviate congestion at the nearby interchange at I-295 and Blanding Boulevard. The project will reduce weaving and merging conflicts along I-295 near the Blanding Boulevard interchange and will provide another way to reach Blanding Boulevard and Collins Road in a high-growth area of Northeast Florida.

Join the flotilla as she fires a salute from her main battery of 6-pounder carronades upon her grand entrance into Jacksonville.  The celebrated War of 1812 privateer square top sail schooner has arrived on the East Coast from Hawai’i & California and is scheduled for a five-year mission along the East Coast of the United States and Canada and will be participating  in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the Star-Spangled Banner.
