Safe Boating Tips for Use During Safe Boating Week

The North American Safe Boating Campaign kicks off officially with National Safe Boating Week, May 21 – 27, 2011. A sweeping inter-agency campaign throughout Clay and surrounding counties will reach out to recreational boaters to provide informational materials and free vessel safety checks. The following information is provided in advance and local officials welcome your coverage of this important topic and will be available for interview purposes in May. 

FDOT Public Workshop on Branan Field-Chaffee frontage roads is Thursday

The Florida Department of Transportation will host a public workshop Thursday to discuss building frontage roads along a 3-mile stretch of State Road 23 (Branan Field – Chaffee Road) in Clay County.

The workshop will be an informal “open house” held between 4:30 and  6:30 p.m. in the OakLeaf Plantation Banquet Hall located at 845 OakLeaf Plantation Parkway in Orange Park. There will be no formal presentation made but at 6:30 p.m., public comments will be heard.

Fuel Price Brief for the Week of April 3

The price of crude oil advanced again last week after the U.S. Labor Department reported payroll gains were greater than projected. Payrolls increased 216,000 in March when they were projected to increase 190,000. The increase boosted investor confidence that demand is on the rise going into the summer driving season.

Jacksonville Aviation Authority Unveils New Public Art at JAX

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority and the Jacksonville International Airport Arts Commission are proud to present SKY BRIDGES, an aerial sculpture and the 13th addition to the JAA permanent art collection.

SKY BRIDGES, by artists Melanie Walker and George Peters of Airworks Studio, is now hanging from the ceiling of JAX’s newly renovated connector bridge. The aerial sculpture works with the architecture of the connector bridge to amplify the natural light in the bridge’s skylight areas. The arcs in the work relate to the air flight paths of take offs and landings and the structure is reminiscent of the many bridges which are landmarks in the Jacksonville area.  The forms literally float in the space by multiple thin suspension cables fanned toward the upper skylight beams.

Crash With Injuries Causes Major Delays On I-10 EB

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- All eastbound lanes of I-10 near the I-295 ramps are back open following an accident with injuries that happened around 6:35 this morning.

Several emergency crews arrived on the scene. All eastbound lanes were blocked for nearly an hour, causing major delays during rush hour. 

Traffic was backed up past Chaffee Road in the eastbound lanes for most of the morning as a result.

Serious Accident on the Buckman Bridge Causes Major Delays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A serious accident on I-295 southbound at the Buckman Bridge caused major delays during morning rush hour.

Police and emergency crews blocked two southbound lanes for nearly an hour following the wreck.

They tell us there were injuries involved in this crash as well, though it's not yet clear the extent of those injuries.

All lanes have been reopened, and traffic is slowly regaining speed.

The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline is $3.54 per gallon, once-cent less than last week. Florida’s average price of $3.56 and Tennessee’s average price of $3.40 both decreased 2 cents from last week. While Georgia’s average price of $3.45 decreased 4 cents from last week, respectively.
