New exit ramp opens on I-295 to Blanding Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new exit ramp on I-295 southbound to Blanding Boulevard opened today.

Drivers will be using a new service road near Morse Avenue. It is about 1.5 miles from the old Blanding Blvd. exit, which will remain permanently closed.

The Department if Transportation constructed the new shift in hopes of alleviating congestion on I-295 at the Blanding and Collins Road exits by separating local traffic using the new service roads from through traffic.

The DOT will soon begin work on the second service road near Collins Road

This is all part if a $63.4 million project that started in February 2011. The DOT said it should be finished by the end of the year.

TPO Launches Driving Safety Campaign to Reduce Crashes

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The North Florida TPO has launched a two-week media campaign to promote safe driving habits in the Argyle area.  Through TV and radio public service announcements and a website, www.caremoreargyle.com, the TPO hopes to reduce crashes by 10 percent over the summer.  The spots encourage drivers to care more, not less, while driving in Argyle by not tailgating, letting people in instead of cutting them off and putting the phone down.

3 Major Construction Projects Underway in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There's no shortage of cones, barrels, detour signs, and delays in Jacksonville. It seems like almost everywhere you go on the First Coast, there's something under construction.

Major projects are underway on our interstates right now. So what's changing, when will it end, and is it all worth it? First, it's the project everyone's been talking about: the change from State Road 9A to the Interstate 295 beltways.

"I think it's great," one driver said. "I hope it works," another added.

Changing 9A to I-295 gets us federal funding, but Mike Goldman with the Florida Department of Transportation says it's more about consistency.

"It'll be a lot less confusing - what's 9A? What's 295?" Goldman said, adding that the plan had always been to make 9A part of the beltway system for 295.

Still, many of you say the beltway system is even more confusing.
