ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The infant a man was attempting to trade for money and food has been found and is safe, according to the Orange Park Police Department.

Gary Briggs, a detective with the Orange Park Police Department said via news release Tuesday morning that the man and infant seen in surveillance video at the Rodeway Inn in Orange Park has been identified.

Briggs said the child was located in his mother's custody at a local motel. The child is now in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families. The child is safe and healthy, Briggs said.

The child's mother, 32-year-old Jaime Rathje, has been arrested on an unrelated warrant for failure to appear out of Jacksonville. Rathje has been booked into the Duval County Pretrial Detention Facility, Briggs said.

Charges related to the infant being shopped around for money and food are still pending as the Orange Park Police Department consults with the State Attorney's Office.

Police are not releasing the name of the man involved since he has not yet been charged with a crime.

Briggs said it appears that the infant was never in any danger.

The case was able to reach a resolution, Briggs said, due to community reports and a review of existing DCF and law enforcement records.

The Orange Park Police Department is extending thanks to law enforcement, DCF and media partners as well as all of the concerned citizens who contributed reports to aid their investigation.
