JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a pedestrian killed by a vehicle early Monday evening.
The wreck happened around 5 p.m. in the 6500 block of 103rd Street between Jammes Road and Harlow Boulevard when a vehicle was traveling south on Jammes, according to Sgt. Donald Washington with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
As the vehicle got to the intersection with 103rd Street, the driver lost control of the car and ended up in the other direction. The car then hit a male pedestrian coming from a nearby Sonic, and then hit a tree, Washington said.
Police have identified the pedestrian as 22-year-old Elijah Thomas, according to a news release from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.
A trauma red alert was issued for the pedestrian, but he died, according to Washington.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with indeterminate non-life threatening injuries, said Washington.
Witnesses reported the driver was traveling in a reckless manner according to Bujeda.
Bujeda said this is still an active investigation.
