Nurse 'can't imagine' not giving CPR | Health

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A First Coast nurse who saved a total stranger with CPR says she couldn't imagine not doing anything to help.

"God put me there at the right time and I was able to help and she's alive and well for that reason," said Jennifer Morton, a Licensed Practical Nurse at Oakleaf Village Elementary.

It was the complete opposite of what happened to a California woman who was deprived of CPR while she was dying. Just before Christmas, Morton was visiting an Orlando theme park with her family when her husband told her someone had collapsed on the ground.

"Well I just wanted to see if I could help. So many people were walking around not paying any attention," said Morton.

She immediately joined the paramedic trying to save the woman and connected an automated external defibrillator on the victim. After the device shocked the victim, Morton administered CPR until EMTs arrived and took over.

"I was very upset when we left there because she was down a very long time I didn't think she had a very good prognosis," said Morton.

But just last month, Morton got a face to face confirmation that the Orlando woman survived. She got a surprise visit at work and got to meet the victim who had survived the heart attack. Morton said anyone can follow directions and do CPR.

"I can't imagine being in that situation and not doing anything," added Morton.
