Crime

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A teen wounded in a gunfight during a burglary of a home in Clay County earlier this week is now in jail, charged with two counts of felony murder.

Deputies arrested 17-year-old Derell Emory after he checked out of Shands Jacksonville Saturday morning.

The burglary happened late Wednesday at a home on Creswick Circle in the Oakleaf neighborhood.

The Clay County sheriff's office said Leroy McDonald, a caretaker, confronted two suspects who tried to break into the home.  Shots were fired.  McDonald died at the scene.

Shots were fired a second time when a Clay County Sheriff's deputy arrived at the home.

One of the suspects, 24-year-old Todd Bradshaw of Jacksonville, died at the scene.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office says Emory faces charges in both deaths regardless of whether he shot the deceased victims.  Investigators say Emory does not have a criminal record in Clay County and was an acquaintance of Bradshaw.

The investigation into who shot who being handled by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
