One Arrested in Stray-Bullet Murder of Mom on Westside | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One person has been arrested for the shooting that left an innocent mother of three dead Friday morning, and police said they expect more arrests.
Analiza Gobaton, 41, was on her way to her children's school when she was struck in the head by a stray bullet near the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and 103rd Street about 8 Friday morning.
She died Sunday.
Police thought at least two people had been shooting at each other a block away on Transylvania Avenue, and today announced the first arrest.
Taurice Leonard Brown, 23, faces charges of murder and attempted murder.
A witness told investigators Brown had been in an altercation with another man who was trying to drive away, and that Brown and another man began shooting at the man driving away.
Investigators tracked down the man in the car, and he told them he was in the area to sell cocaine, and the vehicle with Brown and the other man in it pulled into the driveway. He said they exchanged words, then Brown started shooting.
Based on the witness accounts and being identified in a photo lineup, Brown was arrested.
According to the Florida Times-Union, a viewing will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday with a rosary at 6 p.m., at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park.
The funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
