Middleburg Resident Killed in Buckman Bridge Crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One person has died following a single-car crash on the Buckman Bridge this morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Brandon R. Pratt, from Middleburg, was northbound near the center of the bridge before 7 this morning when he lost control.

The FHP said he had been traveling in the right middle lane, but veered into the retaining wall on the right side of the road.

That caused his car to overturn several times.

Pratt, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash led to the blockage of two of the bridge's four northbound lanes through the rush hour this morning before all lanes were reopened just before 10.

The FHP is investigating to determine what caused the car to lose control.
